Festivals

In the season of 2009-2010 the MSFA introduced small sided games to replace the 11-a-side leagues at KS3 (Yrs 7-9) in order to reduce fixture congestion and headache of arranging so many games. With the festivals in place matches take place at set venue’s and set dates which not only prevents fixture pile-ups but also makes it more fun for the pupils because they play more games and against more schools.

The format of the festivals is that years 7 & 8 play 7 or 8-a-side on small pitches which enables them to have more touches of the ball and try to eliminate players being lost in space.

At the start of the season the schools are split into groups defined by their area of Mansfield or Ashfield and they look like this for 2010/2011:

Ashfield:
Ashfield, Holgate, Selston, Kirkby College, Sutton Centre and Quarrydale.

Mansfield:
Brunts, Garibaldi, Joseph Whitaker, Manor, Meden, Samworth Church Academy, and Queen Elizabeths

After the games are all played over two nights the top teams from each group are then placed into the Trophy group. The remaining teams are then placed into the Plate group. Then another two nights are played out to see who is the Trophy and Plate winners!
