28/01/12: East Riding Boys U15s 0 Mansfield Boys U15s 2

Ashfield (Liam Bacon, Liam Carver, Jacob Dobson, Brad Hague, Robbie Morley), Kirkby (Charlie Preston), Manor (Luke Darby, Conor Green, Liam Green, Harry Joule, Fenn Radford), Selston (Ryan Derbyshire)

Mansfield travelled to East Riding for their ESFA plate semi-final ready to make amends for the 6-1 league defeat earlier in the season. The game started with East Riding firing an early warning shot hitting the cross bar within the first seconds of the game. Mansfield were unfazed by the home sides fast start and hit the woodwork themselves with a left footed effort from Conor Green. The first half ended goalless however both sides where looking threatening going forward. The East Riding threat was reduced in the second half as Mansfield looked more solid, particularly in wide areas. Mansfield kept the ball well in midfield and always looked dangerous when going forward. Jacob Dobson scored the away sides first following Fenn Radford’s vision to switch the play to Conor Green to deliver a good cross. Tackles were flying in during the game and Mansfield gave as good as they got. East Riding become more and more frustrated as Mansfield continued to break up their attacking play. A well deserved second goal once again coming from the left side to the feet of Charlie Preston to swivel with the ball and finish well in the area. The East Riding threat began to totally disappear in the final 10 minutes with Mansfield finishing the game with a clean sheet and a well deserved win. Liam Carver played an excellent holding role in midfield covering a very strong defensive 3 of Liam Green, Brad Hague and Ryan Derbyshire. Fenn Radford and Harry Joule retained possession well in midfield with man of the match Conor Green creating the chances to help Mansfield win the game. The final will be played before 31st March at a neutral venue.

07/01/12: Mansfield Boys U15s 2 Nottingham Boys U15s 2

Ashfield (Liam Bacon, Liam Carver, Jacob Dobson, Brad Hague), Brunts (Harry Patrick), Manor (Luke Darby, Conor Green, Liam Green, Harry Joule, Fenn Radford), Samworth (Cameron Bradshaw, Joe Patrick). Selston (Ryan Derbyshire)

It was a very windy day for this home league game between Mansfield and Nottingham, the game started well for Mansfield with the home team putting pressure on Nottingham which eventually paid off when a break down the right hand side ended with the ball landing at the feet of Harry Joule in the 6 yard box who cooley slotted the ball past the keeper. Mansfield started to dominate the game which resulted in Joe Patrick striking the ball well from 20 yards, a hand from the Nottingham keeper was not enough to keep the ball out and Mansfield took a well deserved 2-0 lead.

The second half saw Nottingham start to find their feet with some good early possession with Mansfield struggling to build on their lead. The game was tight and shortly after the break Nottingham pulled a goal back with a good strike ending up in the top corner to make it 2-1. Nottingham started to dominate and eventually levelled the game with a shot caught by the wind and a slight slip by the Mansfield keeper. The game ended in a draw with the windy conditions playing a massive part in the result. Mansfield played some good football in stages of the game however they need to continue with this for longer spells if they are to hold onto leads in the future. A very good half performance from the whole team was a positive to take from the game into next week’s away fixture against Grimsby.

19/11/11: East Riding Boys U15s 6 Mansfield Boys U15s 1

Ashfield (Jason Alexander, Jacob Dobson, Brad Hague), Brunts (Harry Patrick), Joseph Whitaker (Tom Fuller, Jordi Mitchinson), Kirkby (Charlie Preston), Manor (Luke Darby, Conor Green, Liam Green, Harry Joule, Fenn Radford), Samworth (Cameron Bradshaw, Joe Patrick).

Mansfield played some great football in the first half and more than matched a strong East Riding side in what was Mansfield’s third league game of the season. Mansfield took a deserved lead after a good turn on the edge of the box by Fenn Radford who played the ball to Luke Darby to put in a good cross, the ball fell kindly to Joe Patrick who finished well into the bottom corner. East Riding began to settle into the game towards the end of the half and put themselves level with a good finish by their right winger into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Mansfield gave the ball away too often in the second half and started to put themselves under pressure. East Riding passed the ball well and retained possession until openings appeared, this began to sap the energy from the Mansfield players. East Riding took advantage of the tiring Mansfield side with 3 goals in the last 15minutes of play. The final result perhaps seemed a little harsh on Mansfield and players including Liam Green, Brad Hague and Fenn Radford who played very well throughout the game, however more work rate is needed from some attacking players at times along with all players completing simple passes to regain possession and give defensive players a rest bite. Mansfield should take the positives from the first half performance and try to replicate that into a full performance in their next game against Nottingham in 3 weeks time.

Ashfield (Liam Bacon, Jacob Dobson, Brad Hague), Brunts (Harry Patrick), Joseph Whitaker (Jordi Mitchinson), Kirkby (Charlie Preston), Manor (Luke Darby, Conor Green, Liam Green, Harry Joule, Fenn Radford), Samworth (Cameron Bradshaw, Joe Patrick).

Mansfield travelled to Leicester for their first away game of the league season. The game was tight for the first 20 minutes with both teams struggling to get hold of the ball. The tide turned when Fenn Radford played a defence splitting pass through to Harry Patrick who cooly slotted the ball into the corner of the net. Mansfield started to find their feet and within 5 minutes they were 2-0 up, again it was a through ball from Fenn Radford to Luke Darby who placed the ball well past the keeper. Leicester started the better of the two sides in the second half but Mansfield hit with a quick counter attack ending with Harry Patrick calmly talking the ball round the keeper to score his second and Mansfield’s third. Harry Joule and Fenn Radford were bossing the midfield with captain Liam Green commanding at the back. Harry Patrick completed his hat trick by sprinting through the defence and slotting the ball past the goalkeeper. The final goal came from Joe Patrick who was played through by man of the match Fenn Radford to complete the scoring and a comfortable win for Mansfield.

15/10/11: National Cup – Barnsley Boys U15s 1 Mansfield Boys U15s 0

Ashfield (Jason Alexander, Liam Bacon, Jacob Dobson, Brad Hague), Brunts (Harry Patrick, Kai Richards), Kirkby (Charlie Preston), Manor (Luke Darby, Conor Green, Liam Green, Harry Joule, Fenn Radford), Quarrydale (Jordan Hill), Samworth(Cameron Bradshaw, Joe Patrick)

Mansfield were dumped out of the district national cup after a last minute goal from a Barnsley side who showed little in the way of chances and possession during a tense game. Mansfield missed two golden opportunities to finish the game in the second half along with a great shot from distance by Mansfield captain Liam Green which was tipped onto the woodwork by the impressive Barnsley goalkeeper. Mansfield were letting the ball bounce from the goalkeepers long kicks throughout the second half which was in the end to prove their undoing. In the last minute of the game the ball was once again allowed to bounce in the box and when through a body of players to eventually find its way in the net. The Barnsley players ran off in triumph to leave Mansfield hearts broken. Work rate could not be faulted during the game however lessons need to be learnt and headers must be won at all times otherwise Mansfield will continue to be punished in this way throughout the season. Amongst others, positive performances came from Harry Joule who looked calm and composed in possession and Fenn Radford and Liam Green who worked tirelessly in midfield.

08/10/11: League – Mansfield Boys U15s 1 Derby Boys U15s 1

Ashfield (Jason Alexander, Liam Bacon, Jacob Dobson, Brad Hague), Brunts (Harry Patrick, Kai Richards), Joseph Whitaker (Jordi Mitchinson), Kirkby (Charlie Preston), Manor (Luke Darby, Conor Green, Liam Green, Harry Joule, Fenn Radford), Quarrydale (Jordan Hill), Samworth (Cameron Bradshaw, Joe Patrick).

Mansfield began their season with a home draw against Derby. Mansfield played some good one and two touch football in stages, particularly in the first half. The home side pressed Derby from the start of the game forcing their defence into an error which led to ball landing at the feet of Harry Patrick to calmly slot the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Mansfield looked good after their early lead however Derby hit them on the counter attack with a quick build up ending in a cross to the free head of a Derby forward to easily score. Mansfield looked like they were still getting used to playing as a unit in stages, although they will certainly feel that this was two points lost against an under strength Derby side. Positive defensive performances came from debutants Jordan Hill and Brad Hague. Luke Darby and Joe Patrick also looked impressive causing plenty of problems for the Derby defence.

Chad Report: Season round up

Mansfield boys played out their remaining 3 fixtures of the season over the past two weeks. A lack of a full squad due to fixture overlaps made it difficult for the team who lost 3-1 to league winners East Riding and lost 2-1 in the County Cup semi-final to South Notts. The Mansfield boys did however gain a 3-1 win over Grimsby in their last league game of the season to finish on a positive note. Goals came from Harry Patrick, Liam Green and a deflected cross from Danny Fletcher. There have been many positive individual and team performances throughout the season; however, Mansfield will need more commitment from some squad players if they are to win any silverware next year. Captains Steven Sowter and Ryan Derbyshire have led by example with strong performances throughout the season. Newcomers Liam Carver, Jason Alexander and Harry Patrick have played with confidence scoring some vital goals in close games for the side.

16/04/11: Mansfield Boys U14s 3 Grimsby Boys U14s 1

Ashfield (Jason Alexander, Liam Bacon, Brad Clarke, Jacob Dobson), Brunts (Harry Patrick), Joseph Whitaker (Jordi Mitchinson), Manor (Luke Darby, Connor Green, Liam Green, Fenn Radford), Quarrydale (Danny Fletcher), Selston (Ryan Derbyshire)

Mansfield went into the last game of the season looking to finish on a high. The first half did not go well at all for the Mansfield side who struggled to play any decent football getting overrun in midfield at times. They went into the break 1-0 down. Mansfield started the second half like a different team; they began to play with purpose and pulled level after a fantastic strike from outside the box by Harry Patrick which rocketed into the bottom corner. Liam Green then put the home side in the lead from the penalty spot. The victory was sealed 2 minutes from time when Danny Fletcher put a hard cross into the area which was defected into the goal by a Grimsby defender. Overall a good win to finish of Mansfield’s season. Positives came from Liam Green who kept Grimsby’s strong midfielder quiet in the second half, Luke Darby who always looked a threat going forward and Harry Patrick who was a handful upfront for the Grimsby defence.

Ashfield (Liam Bacon, Liam Carver, Brad Clarke, Jacob Dobson), Brunts (Harry Patrick), Manor (Luke Darby, Connor Green, Liam Green, Fenn Radford), Selston (Ryan Derbyshire)

The Mansfield Boys team went into the County Cup Semi Final with a depleted side due to a fixture clash with local Saturday clubs. The situation was made worse when two Mansfield players dropped out of the game on the day of the kick off. The odds were against the Mansfield side with only 10 players however their strong character showed through and it was obvious that South Notts were to be in for a difficult afternoon. Mansfield started the game the stronger with Harry Patrick causing some major problems for the South Notts defence. Mansfield gained a penalty 15 minutes into the half which was confidently scored by winger Liam Carver. Shortly after, South Notts were also awarded a penalty which was converted to bring the scores level. Mansfield where by far the better side in the game however, they were dealt a cruel blow when South Notts scored on the break with a great finish from the angle. Ryan Derbyshire had a chance for Mansfield in the dying seconds however it was cleared off the line. Overall, a heroic effort from a 10 player Mansfield side who showed commitment, courage and fantastic teamwork throughout the game. The same commitment will be needed from the whole squad throughout next season’s campaign if any silverware is to return to Mansfield. South Notts go onto play Nottingham in the final held at Nottingham Forest’s training ground.

Mansfield Boys hosted a strong East Riding team who where one win away from winning the league title in the penultimate game on the season. East Riding started the strongest and found themselves 1 up after 10 minutes when an unmarked player scored in the Mansfield box. East Riding’s movement off the ball made them look continually dangerous following their first goal. Never the less, Mansfield continued to battle on playing some good football at times. They were rewarded when an excellent free kick was wiped into the box by Liam Carver for Jason Alexander to guide the ball with his head into the corner. This took the home side level into the break and they fancied their chances in the second half with the downhill advantage. Unfortunately, Mansfield could not get hold of the ball enough to create enough goal scoring opportunities to threaten the East Riding goalkeeper. East Riding continued to keep possession with their centre midfielder looking dangerous when going forward. The visitors scored a good free kick to regain the lead. They sealed the victory and the league title 10 minutes from time when a shot from the angle managed to bobble over the unsighted Mansfield keeper.

Mansfield boys returned to winning ways in their penultimate league game of the season against Nottingham boys. Nottingham looked lively at the start of the game however Mansfield proved hard to break down. Mansfield’s good defensive work was rewarded at the other end when Liam Carver delivered an excellent corner to the head of Danny Fletcher to score. Mansfield took confidence from the goal and began to play some good football on the difficult surface. Two quick goals at the start of the second half killed off Nottingham and ended their hopes of gaining any points from the game. The first was a high looping shot from Harry Patrick and the second came from some neat one touch football to put Jacob Dobson through to finish in the bottom corner. All in all, a good solid team performance from a Mansfield side that showed great character throughout the game. Captain Steven Sowter led by example with great levels of effort and determination that were mirrored by the rest of the team.

Mansfield boys suffered a 5-4 defeat at the hands of South Notts on a windy day at Rushcliffe School, Westbridgford this past Saturday. A very strong wind from goal post to goal post made conditions difficult, even more so for Mansfield as they unfortunately only had an 11 man squad for the game. With this said, Mansfield gritted their teeth, battled well and played some good football. Goalkeeper Jordi Mitchinson epitomised the spirit of the Mansfield players by playing a full game out of goal at right back looking confident in possession. Brad Clarke stepped in to make his debut scoring two very good goals. A strong Jason Alexander also scored a brace with great support from Liam Carver on the left hand side who was unlucky not to score two goals for himself. Mansfield went 3-2 ahead at the beginning of the second half although they couldn’t hold onto their lead shooting up hill against the wind. With Mansfield legs slightly tiring, South Notts made their substitutions and took advantage of the wind with a number of good in swinging crosses and one on one chances. Mansifield deserved at least a point from the game and will be hoping for a full quota of players so that they can see in the win in their next fixture.

Mansfield Schools’ F.A began their season in the E.S.F.A Area 4 league with an away trip against Derby Boys in Littleover. Following an impressive 4-2 friendly win over Sheffield Boys in the previous week Mansfield were looking to make a solid start in the defence of last year’s league title. However, against a strong and fast Derby Boys team things didn’t go quite to plan. Mansfield began the game slowly and were undone defensively when the Derby left winger slotted the ball into the corner of the net from a tight angle. Mansfield settled into the game and began to play some good football. The scores were levelled 5 minutes before half time when Josh Radford latched onto a through ball to chip over the goalkeeper. However, celebrations were short lived as the goal was disallowed for a close offside decision. Changes were made in the second half and Mansfield looked to immediately get back into the game when Jacob Dobson hit a shot from distance towards the top corner only for it to be saved by the Derby goalkeeper. Derby then hit Mansfield on the break scoring a second which seemed to knock the stuffing out of the Mansfield players. Mansfield continued to play some decent football at times but really lacked a cutting edge and some creativity to unlock the Derby defence. Mansfield will be looking to get back to winning ways in two weeks time in their first home game of the season against Leicester Boys at Ashfield School.

Mansfield came in 4-2 winners away from home against Sheffield with a very positive performance to take them into their first league game of the season away against Derby on 09/10/10. Seven players made their first appearance in the team after successfully making it through a recent trial game. All players settled in well with Oscar Govan-Greenacre and Fenn Radford looking particularly solid and composed on the ball in the centre of the midfield. Mansfield worked hard kicking up hill in the first half keeping Sheffield at bay to come in goalless at the interval. In the second half Mansfield began the stronger. Their good work paid off when Liam Carver ran down the right to put in a fantastic ball which went through the keeper and into the net. Mansfield gained even more momentum with the pace and calm finishing of Harry Patrick giving them a 2-0 lead. Patrick went onto score two more goals recording a very impressive debut hat-trick for Mansfield. The defence worked well together throughout the game and were unlucky to concede two goals on the break. Mansfield will be looking to take this positive start and transfer it into a win next week in their first league game of the season.

Mansfield got off to a flying start in their last league game of the season with a 20 minute spell of pressure putting the visitors on the back foot. Jacob Dobson scored the opening goal for Mansfield using his pace down the left side of the pitch to get into the box to score from a tight angle. Dobson was also denied by the post in the opening 20 minutes. Nottingham began to work their way back into the game showing strength in midfield and looking dangerous in the final third. The visitors were rewarded with two goals towards the end of the first half to cancel out Mansfield’s hard work. The second half continued in the same manor with Nottingham’s midfield and forwards dominating the majority of the half taking the score to 4-1. Mansfield replied immediately after when the ball feel to Jordan Carver in the box to score and give the home team a lifeline. Mansfield continued to work hard but it was not to be their day when Nottingham scored a 5th to seal the victory. Mansfield showed glimpses of the type of play that had made them unbeaten in previous league games; however it wasn’t enough on the day against a strong Nottingham side. Ryan Derbyshire played very well in defence standing up and making good tackles against some tough forward players. Mansfield needed to win the game to guarantee the league title, now they will have to wait on other results to see if it is still theres.

Mansfield boys secured their third straight league win in a close home game against a South Notts side who were unlucky not to get a draw out of the game. It was the visitors who scored first with a great cross into the box to be headed home unmarked. The goal was the wake up call Mansfield needed with the team beginning to play some good football and creating chances. Andrew Wright was unlucky not to score with a few attempts on goal. The equaliser came on the stroke of half time from Jordan Carver who calmly shot into the roof of the net to score another goal for the team. The winning goal came halfway through the second half with a cross field ball controlled brilliantly into his path by Jacob Dobson to then slot the ball into the bottom corner. Mansfield worked hard for the result and played some very good football at times. The visitors were kept at bay by some fantastic goalkeeping from Liam Bacon and Jordi Mitchinson in both halves.

Another great team performance saw Mansfield boys gain an away win against a strong Grimsby boys’ side who were unbeaten in 8 games. The home team showed no sign of giving up their unbeaten run easily with a lot early pressure in the first 15 minutes of the game. Mansfield held strong and composed defensively and were rewarded with a goal after some good link up play followed by a left footed finish in the top corner by striker Luke Darby. Shortly after this Mansfield were two goals up after an un-cleared shot was forced over the line by Jordan Carver. Grimsby made the most of their height advantage before half time with a headed goal from a corner. Mansfield looked impressive in the second half with an excellent workman like performance and some fine team play leading to a further goal from Charlie Simpkin. The home team scored with 5 minutes to go but all nerves disappeared after Jacob Dobson scored 2 minutes from time to seal the win and an impressive 3 away points.

A very impressive team performance leading to Mansfield boys gaining a deserved 3 league points away at Hull. Mansfield started the game working extremely hard without the ball winning challenges and playing some excellent pass and move football whilst in possession. Mansfield looked like the home team throughout, pressuring the ball and forcing mistakes from the Hull players. A goalkeeping error led to Mansfield’s opening goal with Jacob Dobson being first to the dropped ball to force it over the line. Mansfield’s impressive work rate and passing continued into the second half with the second goal coming from Jordan Carver smashing a bouncing ball in the box straight passed the goalkeeper. The pick of Mansfield’s goals coming from Christian Dobb who rifled a right footed shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner of the goal. Mansfield District Schools’ FA played there first away game of the season against a tough Leicester boys teams who had scored 6 goals in there last 2 games. Leicester where the better team in the first half winning most of the ball in midfield and looking strong whilst in possession. The pressure finally became too much for the away side with the Leicester forward having time in the box to slide in an easy finish to give the home side a deserved lead. Mansfield could have conceded more goals if not for some great defending and one outstanding save from goalkeeper Liam Bacon. After the interval the away side rolled up their sleeves and took the game to Leicester. Substitutes came on to have a positive impact on the game with forward Caleb Yemm having an outstanding contribution which culminated in a composed left footed shot in the bottom corner to score a deserved goal for Mansfield. An outstanding defensive performance gave Leicester little chance to get back in the game after the equaliser. The Mansfield back four of Ben Kilford, Danny Fletcher, Ryan Derbyshire and Conor Green were fantastic winning almost every header and tackle which set a fine example for the rest of the team to follow. Leicester had one disallowed goal towards the end of the game however due to strong defending this was there only attempt on goal. The Mansfield players were excellent in the second half showing great character, determination and teamwork to play some great football and gain a deserved point.

Report:
Mansfield District Schools’ F.A. started football again after a 3 year break from competitive play. Ashfield School was the host for the first league game of the season which could have easily had more goals if it weren’t for excellent goalkeeping at either end. An even start saw both teams working hard to gain possession and get a foothold in the game. Derby began the game struggling to get any clear chances on goal with Mansfield boys goalkeeper Liam Bacon collecting all through balls skidding on the wet surface. Both teams came close to scoring towards the end of the half with a Derby free kick and a header from Mansfield’s Andrew Wright but were denied by excellent goalkeeping. Mansfield looked the stronger at the start of the second half and were rewarded after some fine play ending with a pass to Ryan Dakin just inside the area to hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner to give Mansfield a deserved lead. Mansfield looked strong in defence with Danny Fletcher and Ryan Derbyshire at the heart of things seeing off many Derby threats. Liam Green was part of a strong midfield unit breaking up the play to aid the team. Further Mansfield chances were saved by the Derby boys goalkeeper who kept them in the game. Mansfield held strong from some late pressure to gain a well deserved victory.

A large squad of 20 Mansfield boys’ players including 3 goalkeepers all got their chance to impress with every player having a positive impact upon the game. The boys’ attitude and effort throughout were fantastic and were a credit to their schools.
